Voyager of the Seas Makes History With 3,608 GuestsMiami - June 9, 2000 - The honeymoon goes on for the cruise ship Voyager of the Seas. Embarking on the busy summer season, Royal Caribbean International’s revolutionary new ship has raised the all-time record for most guests on a single cruise to 3,608 guests – a figure that included 380 honeymooners. On its May 28 Memorial Day sailing from Miami to the western Caribbean, Voyager of the Seas surpassed the 3,497 guests from its Dec. 26 millennium cruise. The ship’s maiden voyage was Nov. 21, 1999. The 142,000-ton vessel, largest and most innovative ship in the cruise industry, has 3,114 guest berths at double occupancy. Many staterooms have third and fourth berths, which raises the ship’s total capacity to 3,838 berths. So the record could climb in subsequent sailings. Voyager of the Seas, which will be joined in October by a sister ship, Explorer of the Seas, has received rave reviews from guests, media and travel agents because of its remarkable features. These include an ice-skating rink and rock- climbing wall as well as the Royal Promenade, a four-deck-high shopping and entertainment boulevard with stores, restaurants, bars and gaming arcades. Overlooking the Royal Promenade are 138 atrium-view staterooms. Other features include a 1,350-seat theater in the style of a European opera house and Studio B, home to the ice-skating rink as part of a multipurpose entertainment complex with state-of-the-art broadcasting and recording facilities. |
